Odin is Bonkers 3
Janay Wilk
Odin is a 10 year old (11 on October 2) husky from a So Cal shelter rescued at age 4. At age 8, he had a rash on his pads and nose. We treated like a dermatitis/allergy but it never fully went away. All labs were normal except some signs of inflammation. Just after his 9th birthday he stopped eating. His blood protein level was very high causing an acute kidney injury. We started him on fluids twice a week and fed him by hand trying to get as many low protein calories as possible. It was either a tick disease, lymphoma, or multiple myeloma. Urine came back positive for multiple myeloma. We started him on steroids with fluids continued and we saw a change in two days. We took him to oncology with Dr Tansey from ACCESS Pasadena and started him on melphelan. A week later he was back to a crazy husky. His appetite increased exponentially (steroids too helped this) and we started him on immune herbs from Dr Johnstone. His labs continued to drop to normal range and kidney function was almost normal within a few months. His weird rash disappeared—it was from the cancer. Odin is currently on maintenance melphalan and herbs. He LOVES his daily runs and loses his mind in the snow—like a happy healthy husky.
