We discovered Misty’s cancer by accident when she was four years old. My vet was doing her first gallbladder ultrasound to check for a condition common to Shelties when he happened to see a mass on her spleen. Subsequent exams by a specialist determined that the tumor was cancer, and Misty had surgery to remove her spleen several months later. Left unchecked, the tumor would almost ceretainly have been fatal. Misty quickly recovered her exuberant, happy personality and will celebrate her 6th birthday next week. I am grateful every day for that ultrasound.
