Demetrius aka Puppa.
This picture was taken on 7/8/2018. Demetrius was 11years old. He loved taking walks on nature trails where he could run free and enjoy being a dog. He was living his best life.
Demetrius was my first dog, the love of my life; my soul dog. We were so connected that I called us ET and Elliot.Â
In November of 2016, when Demetrius was 9, I noticed he had a big red bloody sore on his lip. When the sore would not heal, I called his vet who got him in right away and scheduled him for surgery.Â
His vet removed the bad tissue and sent it out for biopsy. We were devastated to learn that Demetrius had an aggressive form of oral melanoma. Luckily, with early detection, and a great vet that got all the margins, his oral cancer did not return.
However, in 2019, a month after Demetrius’ 12th birthday, we weren’t so lucky. Demetrius became sluggish and clearly was not feeling well. He lost joy in life and stopped eating. Demetrius was hospitalized with an aggressive, non-operative form of liver cancer that had metastasized to other parts of his body. We chose to bring Demetrius home. We spent a few days doing all his favorite things. We played in the creek, took walks in the woods, went for car rides, and we spent one last day celebrating his life with family.
On 6/6/2019 Demetrius peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge at home surrounded by the people who loved him with the help of a travel vet. There is not a day that goes by that we don’t think of him.
We love and miss ya Puppa.
Love,Â
Demetrius’s family and friends
